OP Percussion Debut 2019
Point Percussion is a competing percussion ensemble based at Point University in West Point Georgia. The ensemble will perform across the southeast and at Winter Guard International World Championships. In its inaugural year, OP Percussion is looking to make an impact in the Independent A classification. The predecessor to OP Percussion was Point Winds.
The predecessor to OP was Point Winds; Founded in 2016, Point Winds is one of the most successful WGI Winds ensembles in the United States. Point Winds is undefeated in the state of Georgia with three consecutive GIPA circuit gold medals. Furthermore, Point Winds is a 3-time Winter Guard International World Championship medalist (2016 WIA Silver, 2017 WIO Bronze, 2018 WIO Bronze). OP Percussion plans to continue this tradition of excellence.
The philsophy of OP Percussion is simple. The aim of the organization is to teach “Excellence through Competition” while focussing on a “Family” environment. If you are a percussionist that seeks to be the absolute best you can be while gaining friendships that will last a lifetime, then OP Percussion is for you.
OP Percussion will compete in Percussion Independent A
OP Percussion is made up of both college and high school students. The purpose of OP Percussion is to grow the facility and craftsmanship of its members in such a way that will make them better leaders, followers, and humans in a world begging for positivity. Members may also have an opportunity to travel with Point Winds Theater to WGI World Championships in April.
*High School students must be in good standing with their local high school band programs. High school band will always be considered your first priority.

By registering above, you will be the first to know the exact dates for the 2019 auditions as well as receive the audition materials. The 2019 audition will consist of three parts:
- Prepare show excerpt. Everyone who is registered for auditions will receive a show excerpt before the audition. Participants should prepare this piece in advance and will play it for a staff member as a part of the audition. It does NOT have to be memorized for the audition.
- Prepare exercises. Everyone who is registered for auditions will receive an exercise packet before the audition. Participants should prepare this packet in advance and will play it for a staff member as a part of the audition. It does NOT have to be memorized for the audition.
- Visual. During the audition camp, students will be taught the “Skyhawk Way” which is our visual process. Staff members will watch participants throughout the camp. Towards the end of camp, students will be placed into groups and asked to demonstrate the basic visual skills they have learned throughout the camp.
- Teamwork/Personality. Being a contributing part of the team is the single most important part of the audition process. Our staff will take notes of how participants act, work with others, etc. throughout the camp. Be sure to bring a positive attitude!
