More information about Point Winds Theater…

Point Winds Theater is a competing winds ensemble based at Point University in West Point Georgia.  The ensemble, more commonly known as “Point Winds,” performs across the southeast and at Winter Guard International World Championships each year.  Fans from across the southeast know Point Winds as a musical theater group that performs at the highest level and always brings a positive message to the competition floor.

Founded in 2016, Point Winds is one of the most successful WGI Winds ensembles in the United States.  Point Winds is undefeated in the state of Georgia with three consecutive GIPA circuit gold medals.  Furthermore, Point Winds is a  3-time Winter Guard International World Championship medalist (2016 WIA Silver, 2017 WIO Bronze, 2018 WIO Bronze).

The philsophy of Point Winds Theater is simple.  The aim of the organization is to teach “Excellence through Competition” while focussing on a “Family” environment.  If you are an instrumentalist that seeks to be the absolute best you can be while gaining friendships that will last a lifetime, than Point Winds Theater is for you.

Point Winds A will compete in GIPA A Class.  Point Winds A is made up of both college and high school students.  The purpose of Point Winds A is to train and prepare its membership to one day compete in Point Winds Theater.  Point Winds A will compete in state events including GIPA circuit Championships and possible the WGI Southeastern Regional.  Members may also have an opportunity to travel with Point Winds Theater to WGI World Championships.

Students are welcome to audition on the following instruments:

By registering above, you will be the first to know the exact dates for the 2019 auditions as well as receive the audition materials.  The 2019 audition will consist of three parts:

  1.  Prepare show excerpt.  Everyone who is registered for auditions will receive a show excerpt before the audition.  Participants should prepare this piece in advance and will play it for a staff member as a part of the audition.  It does NOT have to be memories for the audition.
  2. Visual.  During the audition camp, students will be taught the “Skyhawk Way” which is our visual process.  Staff members will watch participants throughout the camp.  Towards the end of camp, students will be placed into groups and asked to demonstrate the basic visual skills they have learned throughout the camp.
  3. Teamwork/Personality.  Being a contributing part of the team is the single most important part of the audition process.  Our staff will take notes of how participants act, work with others, etc. throughout the camp.  Be sure to bring a positive attitude!
