Mr. Andrew Lightner is the Assistant Director of Bands at Point University, founded in 1937 as Atlanta Christian College, in West Point Georgia. He holds a Bachelors of Arts in Music from Jacksonville State University. Throughout his continuing education Mr. Lightner has had the privilege of performing and learning from some of the best artists and clinicians available including: Clint Gillespie, Tony McCutchen, Mark Ford, She-e Wu, Blake Tyson, Andy Harnsberger along with many more.  
 
Mr. Lightner served as the Director of Percussion for the Lithia Springs High School Marching Lion Band from 2008 – 2014. During this time he built a successful program resulting in many awards including Grand Champion drumline, best front ensemble, and numerous high drums awards. Mr. Lightner also served as percussion arranger and assisted in designing the fall marching shows. He put together a successful indoor drumline program where he served as designer, arranger, and director. Mr. Lightner has had numerous students move on from this program to study music in college and march with groups like Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps, Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps, Music City Mystique Winter Percussion Ensemble, and several others.  
 
Mr. Lightner has served the west Georgia and eastern Alabama areas as a percussion instructor, designer, arranger, clinician, and adjudicator since 2004. He has had the privilege of working with numerously talented marching bands, indoor drumlines, drum and bugle corps, as well as percussion and wind ensembles. Mr. Lightner has held a private studio for lessons since 2008 and continues to attract talented players and rising stars.
 
Mr. Lightner attended Jacksonville State University where he was a member of the world renowned Marching Southerners, The Marching Southerners Drumline, and the award winning JSU PASIC drumline.  Mr. Lightner was the center snare and served as the percussion captain. During his marching years with the ensemble he was able to study under Clint Gillespie, Christopher Sherman, Leif Marwede, and several others. He was honored to receive the graduate assistantship with JSU in 2009-2010. During this time, Mr. Lightner served on the instructional staff for the Southerners Drumline and was a teaching assistant for the percussion ensemble, steel band, and wind ensemble. 
 
Mr. Lightner Marched with the Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps in 2004, 2005, and 2006.  The corps was a world class finalist each of these years and the drumline was one of the highest scoring ensembles.  While marching snare for Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps, Mr. Lightner also served as the percussion captain. Mr. Lightner had the honor of working with many talented instructors during his time with Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps including Nick Angelis, snare soloist from the award winning broadway show Blast! Mr. Lightner was also very honored to study privately with Mr. Angelis during this time.  He also marched with Atlanta Quest in 2009 for their show titled, “Fracture”.  Mr. Lightner is an endorsed Innovative Percussion artist.
 
In April 2010 Mr. Lightner married the love of his life Mrs. Emily Lightner. They have been blessed with a daughter Anna Grace Lightner and currently reside in Whitesburg, GA. They are actively involved with Dorsett Shoals Baptist Church where Mr. Lightner teaches Sunday school and plays drums in the praise band.
